Mastané is the new name for the collaborative project between Bay-area based violinist and singer Raaginder and Pakistani-Canadian musician and producer Asad Khan (formerly known as Khanvict). Dance-driven bass music meets expansive Indian classical and Sufi improvisations, coming together in a tightly produced immersive audio-visual set that creates a sacred space for listeners to join them on a journey to the innermost reaches of themselves.
As solo artists, Raaginder and Asad Khan have seen their music streamed millions of times and been featured on Disney’s Ms Marvel. As Mastané they are more than the sum of their parts, and have seen recent sold out shows in London, Los Angeles and at Vancouver’s iconic Commodore Ballroom.
In this year that has seen South Asian music take the world by storm, Mastané offers a more nuanced experience of the music of the subcontinent – sensitive, finely honed, and powerful – like their roots in the historical peoples of Punjab.
